KMYFA FLAG FOOTBALL RULES, REGULATIONS, AND SCORING
This league is designed to allow our youth to learn and enjoy the game of football. It is our hope that we encourage competition amongst the players, we want them to recognize and understand how the game works. The scoring system is designed to minimize margin of victory but yet still provide an avenue for our athletes to understand that everyone does not win every game and that it is ok as long as we learn from our shortfalls.

The KM varsity football team will be volunteering their time to coach, keep score, and officiate the games. Please allow them to do the jobs that they have been assigned and take this opportunity to sit back and watch your children play, learn, and have fun!

SCORING SYSTEM
OFFENSIVE 1ST DOWN 1 POINT
OFFENSIVE SCORING PLAY 2 POINTS
INTERCEPTION 2 POINTS
TURN OVER ON DOWNS 1 POINT

GAMEPLAY

  • Both teams will begin with a practice, coaches will go over offensive plays as well as some basic skills needed to be successful in man coverage. After 15 min of practice gameplay will begin.

  • The game will be played on an 80 yard field.

  • Each new possession will begin from the 20 yard line.

  • The offensive team will have a minimum of 7 plays to reach the endzone as many times as possible. On the 7th play the offence will continue the current drive until they are either stopped on downs or a touchdown is scored.

  • A standard offensive and defensive formation will be used for every play. Defenses will not blitz and will be required to play man defense. Players not included in the active routes for a given play will work on a lineman skill (such as a pass blocking kickstep) for that play.  These players will be rotated to an active position after each play.

  • Players will rotate playing quarterback, using a "QB Tee Tripod Trainer".

  • Athletes will not be permitted to use a spin move when carrying the ball. They will be encourages to work on lateral cuts to avoid defenders. If a spin move is used, the play will be whistled dead and the ball will be spotted where the athlete began the move.

  • No new drive will begin with less that 10 minutes remain (ex. If a game begins at noon, no new drive will begin after 12:50) This will allow coaches to review skills learned and get a breakdown with their teams, and give parents a few moments to take pictures and meet with their children on the field before the next game begins.
